The Museum of Military Medicine’s new home at Whittington Barracks
The Museum of Military Medicine will soon be opening its doors once more in its new location at Whittington Barracks, in Staffordshire.
Due to changes at Keogh Barracks, the home of the museum since the 1960s, it is relocating in spring 2026. All new displays will focus on the themes of ‘Medicine, Science, and Technology,’ ‘Conflict and Medicine,’ ‘Medical Personnel and Care,’ and ‘Rehabilitation,’ as well as the wider role of defence medicine in the National Health Service and humanitarian relief. The displays will be modular, to enable a rotating series of topics to be showcased there. Already a new curator has been appointed, to manage the day-to-day running of the new museum and develop education and outreach initiatives.
The museum’s new location puts it on the doorstep of the Defence Medical Academy and headquarters of the Defence Medical Services, which will facilitate engagement with new recruits and new audiences in the area, who will be able to explore the history and heritage of the dedicated individuals, in medical, nursing, dental and veterinary disciplines, who have served their country in the medical services over the years.
Please check back over the coming weeks for further information on the museum’s new venture and its opening date.
